Following a season-opening win against No. 13 Penn State, the Rutgers women's soccer team will try to start a winning streak to begin the year when it plays Indiana today in Bloomington.

The Scarlet Knights (1-0-0, 1-0-0) have had recent success at the expense of the Hoosiers (0-0-1, 0-0-1). The last two times both teams have met, including last season’s Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal, Rutgers has pulled off back-to-back 1-0 victories. One of those wins was in overtime, with both contests occurring at Yurcak Field.

Indiana, which is coming off of a season-opening 1-0 loss to Northwestern, is looking to get to the .500 mark early this season against the Knights. The Hoosiers almost got to full time with a draw but suffered the loss thanks to a go-ahead goal scored in the 85th minute.

In that contest, Indiana had six total shots, with four of them being on goal. One factor of the loss was the number of fouls they took, as the Hoosiers totaled 11 in that game.

Rutgers will look to grab its first road win since the start of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

The Knights began the 2021 season with an opening win this past Friday, 3-2 versus the Nittany Lions (0-1-0, 0-1-0), at the Iron Peaks Sports and Events facility in Hillsborough, New Jersey.

Rutgers, after turning things around in the second half with all 3 goals in that period, defeated the defending Big Ten champion Penn State thanks to freshman midfielder Sam Kroeger’s first career goal as a Knight, one that came off a free-kick, and senior midfielder Amirah Ali’s two goals, including the game-winner.
