NBPD investigates report of shots fired near campus on Guilden Street

The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is investigating a round of gunshots fired yesterday on Guilden Street between Bristol and Courtlandt Streets near the College Avenue campus, according to a University-wide email.
After local residents reported hearing gunshots, the NBPD was able to confirm that a firearm was discharged in the area at approximately 6:25 a.m. yesterday.
The incident resulted in no known injuries and the NBPD has increased police patrols in the area, according to the email. Information relating to the description of the perpetrator is currently limited.
Anyone with information concerning the incident or who may have been around the area at the time should contact the NBPD.
The Rutgers University Police Department reminded students to stay alert to their surroundings, avoid isolated or dark areas and walk in groups late at night, according to the email. Escorts are also available to members of the Rutgers community upon request.
