RUPD arrests suspect involved in recent burglary on Nichol Avenue near Douglass campus

The Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) arrested a male perpetrator involved in a recent burglary in a residence on Nichol Avenue near Douglass campus that occurred on Feb. 5, according to a University-wide email.
The perpetrator, Herbert D. Oquendo Jr., a 54-year-old male from New Brunswick, was arrested on Friday following an investigation conducted by the RUPD and has been charged with burglary.
A male perpetrator by the same name was arrested by the RUPD in October 2021 for being involved in a string of burglaries that occurred within various Rutgers affiliated buildings throughout August and September 2021, The Daily Targum previously reported.
Though, the University-wide email detailing the arrest did not make a connection between these incidents.
The RUPD reminded students to take reasonable safety precautions, including leaving valuables in secured places, keeping exterior doors shut, staying alert to surrounding circumstances and reporting any suspicious activity.
