RUPD investigates theft of motor vehicle on Livingston campus, arrests 1 of 3 perpetrators

The Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) is currently investigating a motor vehicle theft that occurred outside of 55 Rockefeller Road on Livingston campus at approximately 1:56 a.m. on Friday, according to a University-wide email alert.

The victim of the incident, who is unaffiliated with the University, reportedly left his gray Nissan Versa parked and running while making a food delivery, after which it was stolen by three individuals. His vehicle had a New Jersey temporary registration number of W70NAY.

So far, Yasin Clarborne, an 18-year-old resident of Newark who is unaffiliated with the University, has been charged with theft of means of conveyance and criminal attempt, according to the email. The descriptions of the remaining perpetrators remain limited at this time.

The RUPD said that anyone who has information or who may have been in the area at the time contact the RUPD Detective Bureau.

The RUPD also reminded students to follow reasonable safety precautions, including staying alert to surroundings, avoiding isolated or dark areas and keeping vehicles locked and secured, according to the email.
