Ketanji Brown Jackson confirmed as US Supreme Court justice

Yesterday, Ketanji Brown Jackson was confirmed by the U.S. Senate to become the 116th U.S. Supreme Court associate justice, according to a press release.

Jackson was nominated to the Court by President Joseph R. Biden Jr. on Feb. 25, after Justice Stephen Breyer announced his retirement in late January.

Prior to being nominated to the Supreme Court, she served as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia (D.C.) Circuit as well as a judge for D.C.'s district court.

Jackson's confirmation will make her the first Black woman to ever serve as a justice on the Supreme Court, according to the Associated Press. She is due to take her seat on the Court this summer.
