The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is investigating an aggravated assault that reportedly occurred on Saturday at approximately 8 p.m. at the intersection of George Street and Bayard Street, according to a University-wide email.

The four victims in this incident, one of whom is affiliated with the University, reported that they were struck by projectiles, likely from an airsoft or BB gun, that were fired from a vehicle while they were walking near the intersection.

One of the victims faced a non-life-threatening injury and refused to receive medical attention for it, according to the email.

The vehicle was described as a tan Toyota Sienna minivan that fled on Bayard Street in the direction of Joyce Kilmer Avenue, and the description of the perpetrator is currently limited.

The NBPD said that anyone who has information or may have been in the area at the time of the incident should contact the NBPD Detective Bureau, according to the email.

The Rutgers University Police Department said students should take reasonable safety precautions, including staying alert to their surroundings, reporting suspicious activity, avoiding dark or isolated areas and walking in groups when traveling late at night.
