NBPD investigates robbery at intersection of French, Prospect streets

The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is investigating a robbery that reportedly took place yesterday morning at approximately 1:29 a.m. near the intersection of French Street and Prospect Street, according to a University-wide email.

The victim of this incident, who is not affiliated with the University, reported that he was approached by three perpetrators who ordered him to give them his items of value. The victim reported that he was outside of a local establishment when the incident occured.

The victim reported that during the altercation, one of the perpetrators slashed his arm using a knife. The perpetrators subsequently took the victim’s items and fled the scene on foot, according to the email.

The victim endured injuries that were not life-threatening from the incident and was taken to a local hospital to be treated. 

There is currently limited description of the perpetrators.

The NBPD said that anyone who has information or may have been in the area at the time of the incident should contact the NBPD detective bureau, according to the email.

The Rutgers University Police Department said the University community should remember to take reasonable precautions, including staying alert to their surroundings, reporting suspicious activity immediately to the police, avoiding dark or isolated areas and walking in groups when traveling late at night.
