Rutgers ranks in top 20 public universities nationwide

U.S. News & World Report released its 2022-2023 Best Colleges rankings yesterday which showed that Rutgers—New Brunswick ranks in the nation’s top 20 public universities, according to a press release.

The University was named No. 19 in the top public schools, an improvement from last year’s ranking of 23. The Newark and Camden campuses were ranked 53 and 61 in the same category, respectively.

Among all universities in the U.S., Rutgers—New Brunswick ranked 55th, with the Newark and Camden campuses ranking 115th and 127th, according to the release.

The Newark campus ranked 7th for social mobility, which is primarily determined by measuring the success of students receiving federal Pell Grants.

The ranking system was started by U.S. News & World Report in the mid-1980s and uses academic data from surveying higher education institutions as well as third-party information to calculate the ranks, according to the release.

Forty percent of a university’s rank is measured by its success with graduating, retaining and enrolling a diverse population of students with reasonable debt. Other factors relate to faculty and class size.
