New Brunswick residents to receive better health care access with expanded telehealth program services

Middlesex County’s Latino Telehealth Program has expanded itself to provide its services in New Brunswick, with its goal being to make bilingual telemedicine options more accessible, according to an article from MyCentralJersey.
The program is a community-based effort that can enhance education by increasing medical services, and it is working in partnership with New Brunswick Tomorrow, a nonprofit organization that works toward improving the quality of life of New Brunswick residents.
The program will improve health care access to Middlesex County residents who are uninsured or underinsured by providing telehealth health care programs, which will allow medical advice to be received more conveniently, according to the article.
The program is further expanding on a successful launch last year in Perth Amboy, which was why the members decided to extend further to New Brunswick.
Additionally, officials said that the expansion will feature two new offsite physical locations for the program at the New Brunswick Free Public Library and New Brunswick Housing Authority, according to the article.
County officials also said that along with the health care benefits, the program's physical locations will provide technological assistance, bilingual staff, translators and free internet for the attendees.
Jaymie Santiago, president of New Brunswick Tomorrow, said this initiative is critical to the New Brunswick community because access to health care is necessary to allow residents to have a better quality of life and create a more equitable community, which has historically been an issue in the area.
“Together with county and municipal leadership, we will gather learnings around virtual and digital telehealth platforms to step forward toward new and innovative health care strategies for creating a healthier community in New Brunswick,” Santiago said.
