Recent shooting on Douglass campus may have been accidental, RUPD officer says

Kenneth Cop, chief of the Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD), said the shooting that occurred last month in the Douglass Parking Deck may have been caused accidentally, according to an article by Patch.

The perpetrator, Aldo Ruiz-Galindo, a 20-year-old male from New Brunswick, shot himself in the lower extremity, and the reason that the gun was discharged still remains unknown.

Ruiz-Galindo had initially told the RUPD when the event occurred that the injury happened multiple blocks away, though the investigation determined that the wound was self-inflicted and occurred while Ruiz-Galindo was alone in his car on the parking deck.

Ruiz-Galindo is still being charged with lying to the police about the details of what happened, and the investigation remains ongoing, according to the article.
