Dig into these affordable New Brunswick eats before graduation

Are you looking for somewhere new to eat in the area? Maybe you don't feel like going to the Livingston Dining Hall for the fifth time this week or eating the same combo of sandwiches and fruit from Cafe West. Maybe you have a little cash to spend and are tired of the same old. Or perhaps you just want a nice lunch spot to relax and patronize with your friends.
If any of these situations hit home, try any of the places listed below, personally vetted by me, to see what New Brunswick has to offer. I love to try new things, and I'm a self-classified foodie, so consider me qualified to complete the task.
Friend's Cafe
A "Friends" influenced cafe offering an assortment of coffees, pastries and sandwiches — need I say more? Friend's Cafe, located on Robinson Street, presents a welcoming and adorable environment. And it's not a far walk from the Rutgers Student Center on the College Avenue campus either.
The cafe offers a cozy space to study or to grab a quick pick-me-up in the middle of the day. Additionally, when the weather is warm, you can use the outside seating area and have a day to yourself, complete with an iced coffee and a lox bagel.
Roosterspin
Located on Albany Street, directly opposite New Brunswick Station, Roosterspin offers a Korean-inspired menu that also includes some American classics. The establishment's signature fried chicken sandwich with a side of its special fries is a favorite of mine and makes for a delicious meal.
The ambiance combines industrial design with cute touches like record players and little trinkets added around the restaurant. The dim lighting, karaoke room and music around the restaurant also make Roosterspin the ideal location for a date or Friday night dinner with friends.
Harvest Moon Brewery and Cafe
This spot is one of many restaurants worth your time on George Street. It covers all the bases, offering brunch, dinner and a pub-like feel for those who just want to pop in for a drink.
Truffle fries, tortellini and Moon Pad Thai are just a few of the excellent dishes offered on the slightly eclectic menu. The vibes are dark, brooding and a little fun. If you're looking for a satisfying meal that doesn't break the bank, I recommend Harvest Moon Brewery and Cafe.
Hidden Grounds Coffee
Hidden Grounds Coffee has two locations in New Brunswick, both not too far from The Yard @ College Avenue. Crowds flock to Hidden Grounds Coffee for its bustling, city-like coffee shop feel.
You can treat yourself to the coffee you usually enjoy, but if you want to try something new, Hidden Grounds may be the place to go with its refreshing takes on both hot and cold drinks. Feel like you need a sweet pick-me-up while studying? Treat yourself to a donut or a delicious cookie to keep you going.
Sakana
Sakana is a restaurant on George Street specializing in sushi and offers menus ranging from à la carte to all-you-can-eat. Sakana is not only great for takeout but also presents an inviting and intimate atmosphere to sit down and enjoy a meal.
I recommend doing the all-you-can-eat with friends, family or someone special and trying everything the extensive menu offers. My personal must-eats are the Pink Lady Roll, Volcano Roll and the spicy tuna roll.
Hole In The Wall Bagels
Located on Easton Avenue, this eatery opens bright and early at 6 a.m. and stays open until 3 p.m. This spot is everything you could want for your morning breakfast and more.
The cream cheese spreads, specialty sandwiches and Breakfast on a Bagel selections are all worth your time and money. Not only does the aptly named establishment have a cute interior, but it also offers coffee and other drinks that make perfect partners to your bagels.
College eating can get a bit cyclical. Even if you're frequenting non-meal swipe-friendly restaurants, you may be in a bit of a food rut. But being in college is the perfect time to branch out and try new things. So next time you're looking for a good meal and a great time, try something off the menu of one of these off-campus eateries.
