The Rutgers women's soccer team fell to Iowa 1-0 on Sunday afternoon. The game was 2 of 3 straight road games for the Scarlet Knights (5-5-3, 1-3-1) after they drew with Nebraska on Thursday.

In its game on Thursday, Rutgers had the lead at two different points in the first half. Things were different Sunday against the Hawkeyes (8-1-3, 2-1-2) as the Knights were forced to play from behind early in the contest.

Iowa scored in the 24th minute when Josie Durr's shot rolled past the diving outstretched arms of redshirt freshman goalkeeper Olivia Bodmer.

Rutgers' attack struggled to create scoring chances as it trailed 9-3 in shots and 3-1 in shots on goal in the first half.

Bodmer did her best at limiting the damage as she recorded two saves in the first half.

Things began to get a bit chippy at the start of the second half as senior forward Allison Lowrey picked up a yellow card in the 47th minute, and approximately 5 minutes later, the Hawkeyes picked up a yellow card of their own.

The start of the second half did not cure the Knights' offensive struggles as recorded zero shot attempts until the 68th minute when senior midfielder and forward Sam Kroeger had her shot on goal saved by goalkeeper Macy Enneking.

That shot turned out to be Rutgers' best scoring opportunity of the second half as it could only muster one more shot in the half and no more shots on goal.

The Knights' attack was stifled throughout the game, only taking a measly two shots on goal across the full 90 minutes.

The subpar attack has become a bit of a recurring theme for Rutgers. The Knights are now 9th in the Big Ten with 18 goals scored this season. It seemed that they had gotten their attack back on track when they scored 2 goals against the Cornhuskers (8-2-3, 2-1-2), but their play against Iowa may have wiped away that positive momentum.

Rutgers finished the game trailing 15-5 in shots, 6-2 in shots on goal and 5-2 in corner kicks.

Bodmer had another strong performance in the net, recording five saves in the match.

The Knights' next chance to bounce back will be on Saturday when they take on Maryland to close out the three-game road trip. The match will take place at 4 p.m. and will be broadcast on Big Ten Plus.
