The Rutgers baseball team announced its schedule for the 2024 season last Friday. The Scarlet Knights will play 55 regular season games before playing in the Big Ten Tournament, which will take place at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska, for the second consecutive year.

Rutgers will open its season on Feb. 16, 2024, for a weekend series against Winthrop in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The Knights will start their season away from home turf, playing against Old Dominion, St. Joesph's and Charleston Southern for three consecutive weekends.

Rutgers will eventually return to Bainton Field on Livingston campus to host Wagner in its home opener on March 5 for a 3 p.m. contest with the Seahawks. The Knights will then go on the road to play High Point, North Carolina and Delaware.

Rutgers' six-game homestand will start against Rider and end against the New Jersey Institute of Technology. After spring break, the Knights will have their first home series, starting on March 22 against UConn. The Huskies are making the trip to Piscataway after hosting the series against Rutgers last year.

The Knights will begin Big Ten play against Michigan State for the second straight season, but this time, the team will travel to East Lansing, Michigan, for their series against the Spartans.

Rutgers will host conference opponents Purdue, Nebraska, Maryland and Ohio State all at home this season. The Knights will end the regular season with a series against the Buckeyes. The Big Ten Tournament will begin on May 21, with the NCAA Tournament kicking off shortly after.

Rutgers is looking to build off its overall record of 33-23 last season, with 14 of its 33 wins coming against conference foes. The Knights were eliminated from the Big Ten Tournament after falling to Michigan State.

Rutgers will be without former outfielder Ryan Lasko and former pitcher Drew Conover, as they were selected by the Oakland Athletics in the 2023 MLB Draft. Lasko had a team-high batting average of .330, and Conover threw a team-leading 83 strikeouts last season. Former infielder Chris Brito, who hit a team-leading 14 home runs last season, signed with the Kansas City Royals on Monday.

The Knights are bringing in eight freshmen who will look to make an impact. Head coach Steve Owens, who is entering his fifth season on the Banks, will look to lead Rutgers to its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2007.
